Connected to the why & Hiatus Week 3
Hello, alien lovers!
Grad school is fun! I get to spend hours with other nerds, and we all get to talk about publishing, producing, and selling stories. Although the program feels like a great fit, I still feel like I'm way out of my league in many ways. (Impostor syndrome?)
We had a seminar last week about how to stay grounded and generally happy/healthy during your grad studies.
The activity was framed as "staying connected to your why." You identify important values for yourself and apply them to grad school activities (group work, essay writing, research, etc.). From there, you theorize on how you can balance your values with a successful grad school experience.
There's also a lot of identifying what you personally want from the experience, which is something I hadn't thought too much about. Why are you committing time, money, and energy to this program? For the degree? I guess! To learn cool and radical shit, and build a rad publishing community with my peers that could extend across the country? I mean, sure!
It's wild that I get to learn such niche shit that usually nobody cares about but me! I'm blessed and will work hard to make the best of the experience. (I barely check my phone in class, can you believe that? "She's giving studious!")
My "why" is to learn more and better while I help build sustainable communities with my peers in this shitty capitalistic hellscape.
See you next week!!!
